Criteria:
Candidate should
have: a pass in the Higher Secondary Examination of the Department of Higher
Secondary Education, Vocational Higher Secondary Examination of Department of
Vocational Higher Secondary Education, Government of Kerala or examinations
recognized equivalent thereto, with 50% marks in Mathematics separately and 50%
marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics put together are eligible for
admission with relaxation for SC/ST/SEBC candidates. b)
A diploma in
engineering awarded by the Board of Technical examination, or an examination
recognized , State Board of Technical Education undergoing an institutional
course of at least 3 years, securing a minimum of 50% marks in the final
diploma examination.

the Centralized Admission Procedure (CAP) of the Government of Kerala All the

The department
has a workshop that caters to the need of the entire college.Mechanical
Engineering Laboratory: Main facilities of this lab include CNC machines (both
lathe and milling machines), Toolmaker’s microscope, profile projectors, sine
bar and other measuring instruments. . Mechanical Engineering Lab of seventh
semester is conducted in this lab. Thermal Engineering Laboratory: This lab has
heat transfer, refrigeration and air conditioning experimental setups. Heat
transfer experiments include free convection, forced convection, composite
wall, and heat exchanger apparatus. :
Apart from the
mechanical workshop, the college has a Metrology Lab and Heat and Mass Transfer
Lab and a high tech CAD Lab . To assist in intra disciplinary studies the
institution has a full fledged Electrical Lab too.[3] The college is also
setting up an Engines, Hydraulics and Material Testing lab.
Information
Technology
The IT
Department has laboratory facilities for internet technology which gives
students opportunity to work on emerging technologies like cluster computing, .
All the student projects are done in-house. Each laboratory room has networked
printers over Ethernet LAN. Although the emphasis is on the use of Linux and
open source software, other popular proprietary software platforms are also
supported. In addition, the department provides the necessary technical support
for the smooth functioning of the campus-wide network in the college. A 1
Gbit/s internet connection is provided to the entire campus via proxy server.
. A
Software-testing Laboratory with hp Functional Testing software has also been
set up under the MODROBS project of AICTE.
Internet
Laboratory: This lab runs on thin-client machines running under Enterprise
Linux as well as desktops running under Windows. 36 terminals are provided for
Internet connectivity and running various software labs in the curriculum.
Electronics and
Communication Engineering
Students are
encouraged to join technical and non-technical forums, which gives them
exposure to engineering concepts and technology.
The department
has linkages with industry, and scientific research organisations. Faculty and
students engage themselves in technical conferences and have presented papers
in journals and at conferences.

Microprocessor Lab and an Advanced Communication Lab.
The government of Kerala have initiated steps to
make Government Engineering College, Bartonhill a Center of Excellence. As part
of that a series of new buildings were inaugurated on 16-02-2011. These
buildings include state-of-the-art Main College buildings, Mechanical,
Information Technology and Electronics Laboratory Blocks and Ladies Hostel.

Academics – Rules and regulations
Timings
The college will
function from 9 am to 4 pm for all semesters, with one hour break from 12 noon
to 1 pm for lunch. On Fridays the after noon sessions will starts at 2pm.
Saturdays and Sundays are usually holidays for the college.
Dress code
All students
must dress neatly. When they come to laboratories and workshops, they would
wear blue pants and slacks. In addition, they have to wear shoes. Loose
chappals and the like will not be permitted.
